Hallways are one part of the home we often ignore when it comes to interior decorating. Seen as merely a functional space, we don't always put the care into making them look unique, missing a fantastic design opportunity in the home. That's why today we're going to take a look at 6 impressive hallways that buck that trend, courtesy of some of our homify professionals that put a great deal of thought and care into the decor.

As a transitional space between rooms, hallways should unify the aesthetic of the home by extending or developing the theme of the decor. The hallways we'll see today employ a number of different styles, from homely and quaint to super modern, but they all make a statement, and have a huge impact on our impression of the home. So join us, and you're sure to get plenty of inspiration to get your own hallways looking great!

1. Sophisticated and elegant

The defining feature of this elegant hallway is that gorgeous marble floor. Marble gives a space a sense of opulence and importance, and keeps the room bright by bouncing light around. The simple symmetry of the two plants forms a gateway, and is really impactful, while the artwork gives the hallway class and refinement.

2. Trendy but classic

The floor is again a major feature of this hallway, with a stunning tile pattern on the floor adding some exotic flair. The true star though is the artwork above the console table.

Hallways are a great opportunity to display art, which is a really personal addition to your home that shows off your cultured side. It's up to you what kind of artwork you choose, but this modernist piece works perfectly in this sparsely decorated room, with the frame mirroring the light timber of the lone chair.

3. A personal library

This is a really cool idea that works great with the industrial decor; your very own private library! The decorators have used a long bookshelf that stretches the length of the hallway, and that is absolutely brimming with books, with quaint decorations on top giving it a classical feel.

What really makes this special is though is the gallery along the walls featuring old photographs and topographical pictures, showing off the owner's intellectual character.

4. Practical and simple

This hallway keeps things really simple and looks great for it. The furniture is straightforward but charming, perfectly complementing the very sweet colour palette of white with powder blue details.

We always suggest having a coat rack at the very least in the hallway, as it prevents you from tossing your jacket on the couch or the bed, keeping your home tidy, and your life organised.

5. Full wall mirrors

Hallways are typically small spaces, which can make them feel a little dark and claustrophobic. A great way to combat this is with mirrors, especially full wall mirrors like they've used here, which keep the room well illuminated, and effectively double our perception of the size of the space.

The colour palette is also worth mentioning with a sombre olive green giving the corridor a classy look that looks wonderful with the hardwood floors.

6. An indoor garden

The vibrant red of the walls looks really bold and exciting, but what really brings this hallway to life is the indoor pebble garden. The green and red work together really well, and the shimmering textured wall on the opposite side reflects the colours, creating a really interesting effect.

Pebble gardens are good for inside because they are low maintenance, and a lot less messy than traditional gardens, but they also add a touch of nature that makes this area really special.

What fantastic hallways! We're sure you're excited to get started on your own hallway, but first you should check out these marvellous ideas for modern homes!
