In keeping with the company’s commitment to architectural excellence, 4D Studio located a Grade 2 Listed, 2000 sq ft. apartment that was in need of a complete remodelling before it could meet the client’s approval. In addition to providing a new look for the interiors, this renovation would also enhance the space in order to meet the client’s requirements (a spectacular kitchen/dining room with a large living room, plus two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms).

However, it was an interior architectural element that would turn out to be the most striking piece in these interiors…

A light and bright bedroom

A monochrome colour palette was chosen for this main bedroom, enhancing the buckets of natural light filtering in through the window. Notice how those rich brown tones of the wooden floors are mimicked by the plush headboard, bedside tables and –lamps, the ottoman with built-in storage at the foot of the bed, etc.

The sleek heart of this home

That successful black-on-white colour palette was recreated in the modern kitchen, which boasts expert touches that few kitchens in London get to brag about: an elongated skylight, plus a window-side bench, both of which add to the kitchen’s style, interior lighting level, and functionality.

The most striking piece

Access to the apartment is granted at raised ground floor level via a magnificent curved stone staircase, complete with cast-iron decorative balusters topped with a mahogany handrail. The staircase was in poor condition and was missing some parts and had been partially removed at 2nd floor level.

However, 4D Studio managed to re-create the missing parts by taking castings from original iron balusters and commissioned a matching wreathed and ramped mahogany handrail. In addition, as part of the refurbishment, the interior design experts commissioned the internationally renowned Paul Cocksedge Studio to design an ethereal ceramic sculpture to fall through the complete stairwell. By directing light at the installation, it acted as a central chandelier, ensuring a delicate play between light and shadow cast on the walls.

A number of these thin ceramic tiles were etched with text by none other than Leonard Cohen, chosen by the client’s daughter.

The dining space

Although nothing can beat the memorable design of the staircase and its accompanying chandelier, the rest of these interiors still manage to impress. Case in point, the minimalist-like dining room with subtle table and upholstered chairs, embellished slightly by the contemporary lighting pendants dangling from above.

Let’s indulge in a few more images that speak of this Notting Hill apartment’s striking interior design…
