Modern architecture has come a long way from where it was at the beginning of the last century. One glance over the skyline of any major city would reveal to you the remarkable changes in modern design ideals. Contemporary architects and prospective homeowners are zealous about building abodes that ooze personality.

Renowned novelist Lucy Maud Montgomery considered, “Houses are like people – some you like and some you don’t like – and once in a while there is one you love.” Today we will present you with a bouquet of 12 spectacular South Korean homes that you will absolutely adore.

Florid façade

This flowery façade is the brainchild of Iroje Kimhyoman. An array of aluminium pipes has been used to decorate its exterior. This house is located in Goyang, only a few kilometres’ away from capital Seoul.

The curve effect

Not often do we find a reason to drool over such beautiful curves. This Joho Architecture creation is located in Yongin and is set in the backdrop of Mt Gwanggyo.

Following the tradition of the land, the architect sought inspiration in the topography and translated it into an amazing design. The house is made of traditional brick coated in silver water repellent chemicals and concrete.

Warmth of wood clad façade

A giant telescope

Leaning House, PRAUD PRAUD Rumah Modern

We are all aware about the leaning tower of Pisa and also a few other similarly tilted structures. But a leaning residential dwelling with a façade resembling a giant telescope surveying the sky above? Indeed, for a designer with a vision anything is possible.

This house is located close to Cheongpyeong Lake, a very scenic part of South Korea.

A South Korean bloom

The powerful visual impact created by this Hwa Hun house is undeniable. Its complex geometry seems to have been managed with the precision of Jong-i jeobgi or Korean origami.

Surrounded by rather mundane structures, this residential dwelling is certainly one of the proud possessions of bustling Hwa Hun city.

Conical façade

The extreme conical nature of the façade reminds us of grand pyramidal structures of a bygone era. But this is a modern dwelling with unique identity.

It is located in Yongin and designed for a small family with children.

Multidimensional façade

A variety of materials, from concrete to wood, has been employed to build this multidimensional façade. Its edgy nature is quite a deviation from the surrounding architecture.

It is located in Busan, another major city of South Korea.

Steeped in the colours of nature

The cheerful nature of this façade seems to be in tune with its picturesque surrounding. It is the simplicity of design that makes it look so attractive.

In order to ensure affordable housing, Hangul House Inc used building blocks to create this fantastic design. This is also a designer budget home with high energy efficiency.

Slices of delight

This façade is studded with numerous bricks aligned in an interesting fashion. The house is made of multiple blocks of different volumes.

The dark roof creates quite a contrast with the greyish brick and concrete façade.

A toy box

This Changwon abode is aptly named a fun house. Its lovely façade, decorated with bricks, also boasts an unusually protruded white block. Together they induce a charm in the design which is both exemplary and extremely inviting. It is designed by UTAA Architects.

Façade with brick screens

We have already seen a few spectacular brick façades. This stellar grey tone house is stylised with concrete masses and decorated bricks. Oblique slabs were utilised to build the deck, entrance stairway and eaves.

It is an elementary conception moulded into a trend setting design. This detached family house is located in Kyunggi-do, not too far away from Seoul.

Expression of motion
