Yong An Park is in close proximity to the Singapore River. It is surrounded by multiple green zones including the famous Fort Canning Park. It is in this part of Singapore that we are travelling today to see the attractive transformation of a tiny home. The project has been completed by Jia Studios LLP, working on interior planning for close to a decade.

They already earned a reputation of handling many residential and commercial projects to the clients’ satisfaction. This one turns out to be another commendable effort from their end which brought the desired changes in the interiors. Let’s find out more about those changes that transformed the interior of this family dwelling…

Living room before transformation

This was the state of the living room prior to renovation. The lacklustre effects of the boring colour scheme and poor decorative elements are all too evident. The finer details on the ceiling and classy lighting fixtures seemed to be an anomaly due to the poor planning of the rest of the room.

Black sofas placed on dark laminated flooring had a dampening effect on the ambience. There was no real effort to accessories the space at all.

Renovated living room

The inspiring work of the designers has woven pure magic into this elegant living room. A white sofa replaces the black one. It is matched up with glossy white wall panels and stylish coffee table and modern area rug. Cement tiles replace the laminated flooring.

This area has now been segregated into a tiny hall and lounge. A decorative wood panel demarcates the two zones. To give everyone a breather, the small hallway is decorated with an upholstered bench.

Today’s small apartments and residential premises hardly have spaces to accommodate spectacularly stylised large halls. This turns out to be a smart way of designing a tiny hall when there is seemingly no space – genius!

Study-cum-home office

One corner of the living room is dedicated to a study cum home office. It is designed with simplest of tables and elaborate arrangements for storage. Trendy chairs accentuate the contrasting effects of the black and white colour scheme.

Dining room

A more formal living room shares its space with a modish dining area. It is decorated with striking black dining table and white chairs. The ebonised tone of the dining room furniture gives this space a remarkable appearance.

Courtesy of the globular lighting fixtures, twinkling reflections of the Singapore skyline can be experienced right inside this dining parlour.

Old bathroom

Though designed with quality materials, the bathroom was less than appealing prior to the renovation of the place. A lack of organisation and harmony between various decorative features were the prime reasons for its uninspiring look.

Bathroom after renovation

The same space now looks trendy, thanks largely to the smart selection of the decorative elements and an interesting mix between their textures. The mosaic top, for example, contrasts with the shiny cabinet door but finds its match in the mosaic feature wall.

Hidden LED lighting behind the mirror introduces an element of cheer. The walls are partly covered with tiles and the exposed areas have been painted in white. Neat selections like these can easily freshen up the interior of a small bathroom.

Modern kitchen

The spacious kitchen is designed with extensive storage units, work areas and a kitchen island. The material chosen for each is same and the tonal effect remains uniform throughout. The only deviation is the flooring, which has been kept understated like the rest of the home. Louis Poulsen’s Snowball Pendants add a refined touch to a space already glistening under the effects of the ceiling mounted recessed lighting.

In the interior of this Singapore residence, we get to see a smart selection of decorative features and their unifying charm. You can certainly use the lessons drawn from here for the future renovation projects of your home.
