This hotel project was full of challenges for the architect.
The land size is rather small with 1100m2 and the plot is only accessible from one side.
The client demanded 36 rooms on maximum 3 floor levels and a tropical pool and a restaurant. Furthermore the setback was defined with 6 meters from the road level by authorities. These demands caused challenges on several levels for the architect. First the complex functions of a hotel this size had to be organized in a very efficient way on this small plot.
To create attractive rooms in two price categories. Pool level rooms feature a private elevated terrace, facing the pool and a more exclusive outdoor garden bathroom with bathtub.
The footprint of the hotel is organized in a U-shape with an inner courtyard. The 12 meter free-shaped pool in the courtyard is surrounded by pool decks and 8 exclusive pool terrace rooms.
The front façade is covered with a foldable shading grill of small iron wood profiles. Each room can adjust the shading façade to their own taste. This feature creates a playful always changing façade effect between open and closed or semi closed shutters. Specially in the night this grill filters the light from inside out in a unique vibrant way.
The result is a small but exclusive modern boutique hotel in the heart of Sanur. Representing a contemporary style mixed with many Balinese natural materials and features.
